Far ere's slurry ere's sillar? Nae here. Boyndlie is an estate as opposed to a village, or you might like to picture it as a scattered community of farms and other houses.

Boyndlie House lies about six miles SW of Faserburgh, and is a seat of a branch of the Forbes family - although I know the family as being called Ogilvie-Forbes, as have been for at least a century.

William's brother John Forbes, an ardent Jacobite, inherited Pitfichie being known thereafter as 'John of Pitfichie'. He married Susanna Morrison in 1704 and they produced 11 children. Official tax collector for Aberdeenshire he vigorously assisted the Earl of Mar to raise cash for the 1715 Jacobite Rising. The cause lost, he fled for Holland in 1716 and is thought to have perished at sea. His widow gave up Pitfichie and struggled to bring up her large family.

100 years ago Boyndlie would have been a working Scottish estate, with farms and workers, a large laundry building and stables, and kept grass verges lining the parks.

This photograph shows the driveway entrance as it is today, which was in far better condition even in the 1980s.  The track that crosses it in the fore is what remains of the old Fraserburgh to Inverness road.
